Emachines 3240 Drivers

My kids computer is a Emachine 3240. They have broadband which died 2 weeks ago, I ended up phoning orange and getting a new modem and a few free months but the problem can't be their side as the new modem has arrived and still no connection.

There is no LAN connection and I can't repair this. I keep getting a message 'your ip address cannot be repaired'. I have just downloaded a driver for PRO 100VE ethernet I don't live with them so will try this when I see them next. Could it be something else? First off your on orange broadband that really is a pain. Go in to device manager on the problem pc.
See if the lan is listed as a problem if it does list it as a problem please remove all other drivers you have loaded and restart the pc. Then load up this set from intel which i think is the correct ones for your model. Emachines do not list that model for some reason so i will have to look over the old pc world stuff and see if i can find it there. Once you have no problem in device manager listed its time to check the lan cable. Shut the pc down and remove the lan cable from your pc to the modem ( would not happen to be a livebox would it?
) shut your modem down. Now reconnect the the lan cable and switch on your modem first. Allow that to start up fully and then restart the pc. Both modem and pc should renew the ip address if you get a connection to your modem but have no net access its down to orange and good luck trying to get any sort of support out of them, to be honest i would dump orange broadbands backside and get yourself a new isp. Orange have a bad name now, take it from me i use to have a business line with them. Have a look at this site for problems with orange. Dave I have gone through all your advice and still it will not find the LAN.
I have found a problem though, my firewall is switched off but I keep checking my firewall settings and I get the message that firewall is ON. I have switched it off, could this be anything to do with the fault. I have brought the PC to mine so I can struggle on with it and use mine to connect for drivers/updates etc.
I was thinking of buying a new network card (for the price they are I guess its worth a try???) I'm well and truly stuck, I really appreciate your help and time Dave Thanks:compu2. Uninstall your firewall just till we get this problem sorted out. Right i need you to dig deep on that lan card and that will mean everest. Look in the download section on the bottom of the forum. Look under software. Download everest home. Go over to the problem pc.

Remove all firewalls and lan card drivers installed. Restart the pc and install everest. Now run everest. Two thing i need to know. With everest running click motherboard in the left hand box then motherboard again in the large box. Post back with the report everest gives you.
Second in the left hand list click the little + next to network. Click pnp/pci network again post back with what everest tells you. Right in that report everest does say intel pro100 VE lan. So this is 100% the correct drivers.
Now to stop this install from going wrong. If you can't uninstall your firewall just shut it down while you install that driver.
Also you should be able to stop it starting with windows if its gone wrong. The way to do that is click start, click run it will open a dos box in that box type the following line msconfig now push enter click the startup tab look down the list for the firewall name, take the tick out the box. Click apply, ok, and restart the pc. Windows will throw up a box on your next start up saying the config files have changed and do you want to continue, put a tick in the box that say's don't show this again and then click yes. That will stop your firewall from starting with windows.
If teh uninstall program is just hanging i think its gone wrong so best to shut it down fully then see if you can remove it. I have seen firewalls block there own uninstall and that may well be what is going on here. If its not running to start with you may be able to remove it. Mhc document express.
Reinstalling windows was going to be my last thing to say try, after you try all work rounds first if that don't work then reinstall windows to clear the problem in this case i think what happen is your firewall went wrong and did not ask you what to do and just blocked the install so windows could not see or use the card. Not the first time i had to reinstall windows to get rid of a firewall that would not do as its told norton was horrible for going wrong and blocking everything in sight the whole reason why i now use zonealarm pro bad point about zonealarm pro is it really slows down your boot up time so mine is shut down till i want it. Yeah i have seen some sites support, emachines i have to say don't rank very high with me in fact them and the old tinypc are a few of the worse, even HP are getting in my bad books these days for refusing to help people with downgrades. Glad you liked the site and trust me its going to be around for sometime yet as its a hobby i can't stop doing.
